So, I just logged in to Livejournal for the first time in a couple of years.
My friends' page is empty... No one has posted...
Probably because you guys aren't logging in either. Haha!

I wonder if anyone will see this?

Life Decision [08 Jul 2010|11:02pm]

So, I have an interview this Wednesday for a possible animation job in St. Louis. I'd be working with two neurosurgeons creating animations of spines, pathological spines, surgical implementations, and surgical procedures. It is supposed to be a full time, permanent position. I was absolutely ecstatic about this when ITT Career Services contacted me about it, but then I realized I still want to become a veterinarian.

Now, I have to make a decision between this possibly awesome job or following the vet school dream. I'm leaning toward vet school, but that is a serious commitment, and I don't want to rush into it. I'll have to retake a lot of science classes just to get back up to speed. Then I have to take the MCAT, followed by an interview with several veterinarians who will apparently grill the living tar out of me. That gets me into vet school. Then I have four years during which I must cram my brain full of animal knowledge. Honestly though, vet school is the part I'm looking forward to even though it is reputed to be fast paced and stressful.
The part of this plan that worries me is the pre-vet study. I'm trying to cram this plan into one and a half years. It would be a full two years, but I don't think I'll be able to enroll back into Mizzou this fall. Looking to come back in January. Hopefully, this gives me enough time to have studied enough science to do well on the MCAT.
By the way, I'm severely lacking on shadowing hours right now. I had some from the first time I went for Pre-Vet, but even if I could find the paper on which I kept track of them, I'm not sure they'd be accepted since they're so old. I need to get back into a vet clinic.
I'll be heading up to Mizzou with my mom and sister on July 30th. They're going for a campus tour, and I'm going to try to meet up with some advisors (Vet school and Mizzou) about re-enrollment and planning my next few semesters. Hopefully, I can get this to work on the timetable I've constructed.
I need to get rid of the student loans I currently owe. I'm secretly hoping that when I tell my Grandpa that I want to go back to vet school, he'll offer some sort of financial assistance. I'm not going to outright ask, but if he offers, the help will not be turned away.
This hinges on my going the vet route and not the animation route...

By the way, my love life sucks. Well, it's kind of nonexistant at the moment. Solitary Andrew doesn't want to be solitary anymore.

Having friends who are doctors (animal and human) makes me want to be a doctor...

So, like I posted on Facebook, I saw my sister's college brochures and now I'm thinking of going for a Masters. Yeah, let's blow more money on school. At first I thought it was just fond memories of Mizzou and a big college campus. Then there was the "maybe it's just the 'left behind' feeling." Because when all of my friends were in relationships right after high school, I had this weird "left behind" feeling like everyone else is getting their lives in order and I'm kinda sitting back in the dust watching. Now some friends are becoming doctors and it's, I was on that path (or a similar one), but I left it for something else. Maybe I should have stuck to it. Oh well, kinda late now. What can I say? I'm a fool for nostalgia...
But back to the Masters debate!
So now, I'm seriously considering a Masters degree in animation or something akin to it.
Pros:
More time to work on my portfolio with better technology than I have at home.
Could apply for internships that require current enrollment in an educational institution.
LOCATION: I could pick a college in an area that has more jobs in my field (Chicago or Philadelphia are two possibilities).

Cons:
Might have to wait a semester or two to start enrolling.
Need a job in the area so I can live there (I seriously doubt dorms are an option at the Masters level).
MORE STUDENT LOANS = MORE DEBT.
Plus I have to pay back the current ones now.

I suppose if I'm seriously considering this, then I need to check out schools in those areas. I know Loyola College has a graphic design Bachelors program, but I don't know about Masters level work. The Art Institute of Chicago might be an option, and I haven't even researched anything around Philly yet.

In related news, the job hunt continues. I'm looking in Chicago for animation work. Please, someone give me a call back!

Been playing tennis a lot, and I'm trying to work out more. I've actually started doing push ups and such instead of only running.

Matt! I know you do some weight lifting. What are good exercises to work the shoulders and arms? If it makes a difference, going bulk over tone.
Yeah, that's right guys. Scrawny, 'ole me is finally doing something about the scrawny.
I almost finished that with "It's time to get brawny" but that is a horrible, horrible rhyme.

Do you approve of this post, Meagan? [19 Jun 2010|12:53am]
Job search continues. I have widened my search range to include Chicago. It has more animation than St. Louis. I need to work on my portfolio, but procrastination is a bitch.
I have thought about doing a picture a day kind of thing like Rachel did once upon a time. I would be drawing something in Photoshop with my pen tablet just for the practice of drawing and Photoshop and using the pen tablet. Because, as Napolean Dynamite says, "Girls want guys with skills!"

The current lease I have is up in November, and we (both roommates and I) will not be renewing for another year. I decided that if I don't have a job in my field tying me down at that point, then I would join the Air Force. It seemed like a decent idea, but I'm now seriously debating that option.

I daydream too much.

Did I ever tell anyone that I plan to live to be 363? It seems like a good number. Who is with me? And darn it I'll be a healthy tricentenarian!

Well, the Flight Safety screening went well. My model turned out well, but I don't know how I did compared to the others in the screening becuase I made a point not to distract myself by looking at others' progress. I also must start working on more project pieces to add a bit more depth to my portfolio. No word yet from Flight Safety (the screening was a week and a half ago), but we were informed that it could take up to three weeks to receive word.
I was also notified of a job opportunity at A-B (Anheuser-Busch) for a Production Weekender. It is not in the graphic/entertainment field by any stretch, but it pays $28 an hour. I'm definitely thinking of applying even though it means my summer weekends will be shot. It also means I'll be missing church much of the time I imagine.

My desk needs drastic cleaning. There are a lot of old papers that need to be scrapped, and a general reorganization needs to occur.

I found the first seven seasons of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer on Netflix. I'm partway through season three. Call me whatever you want for watching Buffy, but maybe I have an extreme hatred for vampires. They need to die...again. Cliche line is stricken.

Good bye.

Writer's Block: Sunday in the park with ____? [23 Apr 2010|05:56pm]
If you could hang out with any fictional character for a whole day, who would you choose, and why?

Treebeard.
First of all, he's an Ent which is simply awesome. Not too many Ent sightings as of late.
Second, he has garnered quite a bit of knowledge and wisdom in his many years, and Ents do not forget many things. This includes knowledge of every language.
Third, he is patient. It seems that the world is becoming more impatient as processes become quicker and cars faster. This would be a chance to learn patience from the master.
Ent water. It has some mysterious properties that made the hobbits grow tall. I wonder what it would do for me?

So, for those of you who watch Spartacus, my roommate has informed me that Season Two is indefinitely postponed due to the actor portraying Spartacus diagnosis with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. In the game of life, this was truly a randomly occurring scripted event. POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!

In other news, not much to say right now. I like playing tennis. Wanna play sometime? Get a hold of me. Facebook is an easy way to do so.

Allow me to propose a toast! [08 Apr 2010|11:21pm]
I went wandering through the dusty halls of LJ history and realized one thing. My Lord, we were an angsty bunch! I'm sure some of you might remember a specific incident a few years back as a good source (if you're not familiar with that of which I speak, then don't worry about it). I'm glad to leave the angsty past behind. I have to wonder though; does every person go through a stage like that at some point? I certainly hope not or the world is a sad place indeed. I think that if I found myself traveling back in time, I would slap myself (past self) silly for being such a whiner sometimes.

Here's to a happier future! *Raises empty beer stein.* Yes, I do have an empty stein on my desk. It was a gift for being an usher at a friend's wedding, and I did indeed raise it.

Job hunt is going better. I have a couple of good prospects. Yay! If I can land the job I want, then I could possibly pay back all my student loans in three years. Not too shabby I should think.

Leave a comment, I'm curious to know what you're thinking right now.

Spaghetti.

[03 Apr 2010|05:31pm]

When I graduated from ITT back in December, my financial aid rep. told me that I had "temp credit" through ITT that would be due in payments soon after graduation. No interest is added to the loan which is why it was immediately due. Well, I monitored the mail, and never saw anything come from ITT. It has been four months to the day since graduation, and I haven't seen a bit of mail. I asked another financial aid rep about it yesterday and found out that the letters aren't going to be addressed from ITT but from University Accounting Service. We went to the financial aid office and she called UAS, and apparently, they have been sending out statements. So I find out that I am late on the first two payments. Took care of that today. Slowly but surely, my student loan debt is being eaten away. Here I was hoping that I wasn't receiving letters because someone secretly paid it off for me (I have a couple rich relatives) or it got zeroed out in the system due to some error. So much for dreaming.

In other news, the job hunt is going a little bit better. I talked to a TEKsystems rep about a position that should be opening up at SAIC in St. Louis. I'd be a contract employee for the first six months, but after that, I would be a full time salaried employee of SAIC. Also, there is another Flight Safety screening coming up, and I am making building models on the side to send in. A resume isn't much help in displaying how good at 3d modeling a person is.

Weather is now good for tennis playing. I'm up for it just about anytime I'm free.

Hmmmm,
Still on the job hunt. There are a few good prospects. I really must say, job hunting is kind of annoying. I guess this is a test of patience...

MATT: Good luck at Penny Arcade! I might be a bit late in posting this, but I only now read the update.

I think it is time to eat some ice cream and watch Fawlty Towers.

Oh yes! One of my roommates has decided to exercise as well. Now the rec room in our apartment complex is slightly less boring when I'm there. Yay for being healthy.

Ice cream.

According to LiveJournal, I haven't posted in almost a year. I occasionally get on here and read through my friends' page, but rarely update or comment. So here it is:

I graduated.
Looking for a job in Graphic Design/ Animation/ Game Design/ Modeling.
I may have to put the job search on hold for a while because I've been selected for jury duty. I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, jury duty (if selected as a juror) will provide some sort of income since I am currently without a job. On the other hand, it will take away time from my employment search.
Luckily, I was thrifty during my time at Wal Mart and still have some money saved which I can use temporarily to pay bills. Rainy day money may soon see its rainy day. Ah, the importance of saving. Looking back, kinda glad I didn't buy that new car I so badly wanted. The money not spent is finding a more important use such as paying back student loans.

I need to work on my portfolio now.

Since my last update:

I got a desk. It's a nice L-shape. Glass top too!
Started another quarter. I have Advanced Animation this quarter. We are spoofing the Dragonball: Evolution movie trailer with Charlie Brown characters.
It warmed up drastically outside.

I also have to make a custom controller for class. It's going to be a controller for fighters. So basically, I have to rig pressure sensitive areas to a punching bag so that when you punch it, it will punch in the game. Same with kicking. The only concept that is giving me trouble is the directional pad. I had originally thought about rigging that to a DDR pad, but that would make it impossible to execute a jump kick. Well, impossible for jump forward/backward kicks since you'd have to use two feet on the pad and another to kick the bag. That may have to stay as a handheld controller part. I've already talked to an Electronics student who could help me rig everything together and well, understand the electronics of the controller. So, hopefully within the next few weeks I will have a functional controller.

Later.

Well,
This quarter is pretty much over. See, my stress levels are dropping dramatically!
Now I need to focus on my portfolio...and getting a desk. I do need one.

I have a couple of textures to make and then I think it's high time for some Diablo II or Warhammer.
Warm weather has me in high spirits. It's nice. I could hug a baby if they weren't so gross. So I'll settle for petting some kittens.

I was there for history [28 Jan 2009|02:14pm]

So today, for the first time ever, ITT Technical Institute cancelled classes, well at least the morning classes. I don't have a morning class, but I did find out they were cancelled when I showed up to work. So, to get my hours I stayed there and did phones because our front desk person wasn't there.

I got to turn everyone away. It was enjoyable.

Yes, I was there for the making of history.

I have yet to win the lottery. [24 Jan 2009|12:31am]
Purse before spoon,
Except after noon.
Or in cases of night,
When there's really low light.

I've created a monkey model for a game we are making in class. Next is the tiger model. I'll try to upload some images of said models soon (if I can't on here, then look for them on Facebook).

So, I finally got a "new" car. It's a 93 Ford Taurus station wagon (white). It actually has fewer thousand miles on it than the one that I had.

Well, that's short enough.

Is it time for another post already? [15 Jan 2009|04:15pm]
Well, here again. I'm sure there is plenty to update on, but I seem to forget it all as soon as I click "Post."

Started playing an MMO over Christmas, Warhammer Online. It's rather fun, mostly because I play with both roommates. We played a lot over break, but then Dan's computer contracted an illness and was out of commission for a while. So I haven't played much within the last couple of weeks (also partly due to the homework I have to complete).

My jumpdrive died over Christmas break. The data that was on it couldn't be recovered either. Other than losing work from the past year of school, I lost everything that I had started this quarter. The monkey model has kind of been a bitch to recreate. Of course, I found from this experience that jump drives apparently have a set number of read/writes that they can perform and when a jump drive hits this limit, it simply stops working (you'll get the "USB Device not recognized" error). A word to the wise: back up everything you have on a jump drive somewhere else especially for older ones.

There has to be more, but this will do for now.

[03 Dec 2008|06:14pm]

It's only been about three months or so since I've last posted.

I now live in an apartment in Arnold with two friends from school.
Well, that's the big news I suppose. This means I have to find another job. Another part time job that is; I don't plan on quitting at school-work.

Oh, I have good game playing internet again. That's always fantastic.

Well, I've gone update braindead. So maybe more later.

[ mood | calm ]

Well, to update on mostly everything that's been happening.

Today is my last day "officially" employed at Wal-Mart. The last day I actually worked was Wednesday of last week. Using a personal day and a week of vacation during your two weeks notice is a wonderful thing. I worked at school two days this week. I didn't get to do the normal student worker stuff because we are between quarters, but I got to do a lot of cleaning. Basically both of my five hour shifts were spent cleaning one room each. Didn't even finish the kitchen either, but what I did looks fantastic! All organized and everything.

I think I'm going to have to find another part time job soon. I will be working about 20 hours at school, but that is going to be barely enough to cover my gas expenses since I have to drive up there five days a week. Hopefully, I can find something decent around Arnold because that is where I will be moving come November!

Two friends from school and I are going to be getting an apartment less than a mile from school at the beginning of November. It's a nice place, but the rent is kinda steep ($400 per person). Well, that is with rent, electricity, and cable internet all smashed into one bill. Of course, this means I'll be saving a boat load in gas money. But wait! It gets even better. The apartment complex is hidden right behind a QT. I could always look there for a part time job. Which would mean everything in walking distance. Don't know how fond I am of working at a gas station though. I think the reason it bothers me so much is because I hated working the cigarette lanes at wal-mart and I would have to get cigarettes for people. It's not that I'm extremely anti-smoking (both roommates are smokers). It's that I don't like hunting for a pack of cigarettes out of the many different kinds. Talk about a "Where's Waldo" with cancer sticks.

Hey Arin, didn't you work at a gas station? How was it? Any advice if I should pursue this endeavor?

So until then, I have to drive to Arnold about five days a week. I don't like that drive. Did I mention I was looking for a new car? I have a couple prospects, but I haven't visited the dealerships or anything yet. I wish I knew the best way to haggle them down. Should I tell them I can pay for it outright at a lower price or should I agree to do financing if they lower the price? I need to know these things.

Well, I suppose that is about all for now.

[22 Aug 2008|09:19pm]
Well, I will have more news tomorrow, but I must wait for the grand unveiling first. So, on to today's news.
I am looking at moving into an apartment with two friends from school. In fact, they are going to look at the place tomorrow. This means I really need to get on the ball as far as getting a new car and a bed goes. Hopefully I can mostly, if not all, accomplish this during my week off. Soon, I will be living right near school, hopefully.
We are nearing the end of the quarter. I have two of three finals completed. I have to go back on Monday for my last night class meeting. This gives me the weekend to work on my research paper. Hmmm, other than that, not much really.

I need to work on my research paper now. It's about crunch time. Isn't that relevant to the situation?

Well, I finally have a Facebook for those of you who don't already know. If I don't friend you (assuming you have one), then you might have to friend me because I have run into problems locating some people. Oh boy, here comes a new addiction.

Life and school continue as usual, I am a little tired this week because I have had to get up early every day except Monday. Ugh.

Not much more to add really....
